This route is for people who work from a laptop and want somewhere new every few weeks. Each stop gets three or four nights, long enough to find a cafe, set up a routine and still have time for a trail. The legs between towns are short enough to drive in a morning.
Bend and Boise start the route, with river paths and a walkable downtown in each. Missoula and Bozeman are university towns with walkable centers and mountains at the edge of town. Jackson ends the trip close to the Tetons. Check the internet connection and the workspace before you book any stay, since quality varies from place to place. Summer is the easy season, with long evenings for hikes after work. Winter brings snow and ski crowds to Bozeman and Jackson, so book ahead if you stay then, and expect the road between towns to need more care.
