Phoenix to Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff and Williams on twisty mountain roads. A short ride for spring or fall.
The ride north from Phoenix climbs from saguaro desert to red rock to pine forest. The most fun roads are the winding ones into Jerome and through Oak Creek Canyon on the way to Flagstaff. Keep the pace relaxed, as there are many curves and a lot to look at. Gear up for a wide range of temperatures, since the desert floor and the pines are a long way apart in feel.
Spring and fall give mild riding weather. Summer is hot in the lowlands, and Flagstaff and Williams can see snow in winter. Sedona is busy, so book early and ride in the morning before the day traffic builds. Jerome is a steep old mining town. The streets are narrow, so park and walk.
